Holiday Walks in Mallorca, Graham Beech - Here is a new side to
Mallorca - an escape from the crowds. The diverse walks included will enable the rambler to discover rural traditions and explore quiet villages. The variety of scenery on this island is stunning - one can enjoy views from below and on top of magnificent mountains, or combine a coastal walk with a refreshing dip in the sea. As well as the presence of this blue Mediterranean backdrop, there are country strolls amid olive groves to be enjoyed, and more
demanding rambles in the mountainous north-west of this dramatic island. Published April 10
Walking in Mallorca, June Parker and Paddy Dillon - "Walking in Mallorca" quickly
established itself as the most comprehensive guidebook to the island, with
particular emphasis on the rugged Serra de Tramuntana. June Parker's
routes have been walked afresh, carefully checked and amended where
necessary, and are now presented with new mapping and plenty of colour
pictures. This book will entice walkers well off the beaten track,
enabling them to explore the most diverse terrain around the island.
Rugged mountain walks contrast with remote valleys, while waymarked trails give way to long-forgotten mule tracks and hidden mountain passes. Some walks run close to breathtaking cliff coastlines, while others pass through sleepy villages where welcome refreshment can be obtained. Published Oct 06
Trekking though Mallorca, Paddy Dillon - Although it is still a favourite destination for beach holidays more and more visitors now go to explore the island's most dramatic mountain range, the Serra de Tramuntana. The GR221 - 'La Ruta de Pedra en Sec' or 'The Drystone Route' - is a brand new
long-distance trail which makes a complete traverse of the Serra de Tramuntana. It follows old paths and mule tracks linking delightful mountain villages, crossing rugged, limestone mountainsides, running through forests and passing dramatic cultivation terraces. Although new, over half of the 140 km route is now fully signposted and waymarked and the rest is fully accessible, with plentiful services along the route. "Trekking Through Mallorca"
covers the whole route in detail, alongside many of its variants and alternatives, and contains all the information walkers need to follow the GR221 through the mountains. Published Nov 09
The Rough Guide to Mallorca and Menorca - A handbook to two of
the Mediterranean's most beautiful and popular islands. From the
cosmopolitan street life of Palma to Menorca's remote prehistoric ruins,
it features a section that introduces the islands' highlights. It
provides route descriptions of hikes on both islands, as well as tips on bird-watching. Published April 10
Mallorca (Landscapes), Valerie Crespi-Green - This is one of the books
that won Sunflower Books the Sunday Times 'Oscar' for best guide book
publisher and since 1984 the most widely-used walking guide for Mallorca.
It was the first walking guide for Mallorca, published when the island had
a reputation as a haven for 'larger louts'. Sunflower's author knew
better, and Mallorca is now one of the most popular walking areas in Europe (and a favourite destination for bird-watchers, too). This completely revised sixth edition updates the routes and maps to reflect changes since the previous edition was published. Whatever your age or hiking abilities, there's something here for you - from coastal strolls to extremely challenging climbs and descents. Car tours and picnic suggestions are included, as are
timetables for public transport. Published July 10
Menorca Car Tours and Walks - Pocket-sized and in full colour, this new edition describes car tours, walks and countryside picnics. Both the fold-out touring map and the large-scale (1:40,000) topo walking maps show the newly
inaaugurated Cami de Cavalls, a walking/cycling/riding trail circling the island alongside or near the coast. Timetables for local transport. Unique free on-line update service with specific route change information. Series (50 destinations) dubbed 'the blue Bibles' by the Sunday Times. Published March 10
Ibiza and Formentera (Landscapes) - Until the sixties, Ibiza belonged
to the Ibizans, and only a few artists, poets and writers lived in this
paradise. Then the flower-children arrived, the hippies and drop-outs. In
the last 30 years however, mass tourism has taken over and unfortunately
destroyed much of the charm of Ibiza and Formentera. But not everything on
the islands has been spoiled. 'Bed and burgerbar' building has reached
saturation point, and a visit to the pine islands' (the 'Pityussae', as
the Greeks called them) is still worthwhile today. There's an unending
wealth of hidden beauty spots to be discovered, and this new edition of
the book helps you to find the best of Ibiza and Formentera, whether you
travel by car, bicycle, or on foot. Published April 07
Mallorca: Rother Walking Guide, Rolf Goetz - 48 walks mostly in the Muntana
mountains above the northwest coast, but also coastal walks in other areas
of Mallorca. Published Jan 05
