Walking in the Sierra Nevada, Andy Walmsley -
North from Granada: A Walking Tour from Granada to Toledo and Madrid in a Direct Line, Roy Nash - A very enjoyable read. This is NOT a serious book about walking in Spain, but a really humorous, and sometimes quite touching, account of the adventures of 2 very different middle-aged men who just decided to walk together from Granada to Madrid. Whether or not you know Spain, or even like walking, I think you're with them every step of the way, and by the end your feet ache too! You feel their frustration as they get into one scrape after another, as they argue and sulk, but are determined to keep going. And at the end you really share their pride when they eventually achieve their goal. Apart from being hugely entertaining, the book is visually attractive, with lots of photographs to aid the reader's imagination, and some amusing vignettes. It would make an ideal gift. Buyer Review.

GUIDE BOOKS The Rough Guide to Andalucia - Edition 5, Geoff Garvey and Mark Ellingham - The latest edition (2006) of the Rough Guide to Andalucia is, quite simply, superb. It is attractively packaged, with some stunning colour photographs, and the layout is clear and logical, essential for a book containing over 700 pages. Besides having copious information on the usual Andalucian highlights, there is a wealth of detail for those who enjoy getting off the beaten track, both in cities and the less frequented towns, villages and rural areas. I'm a frequent visitor to Andalucia and I was astonished to find information on out-of-the-way places that I know and that receive very few foreign visitors. This really is a book for those who enjoy exploring as well as visiting the big highlights. There are guided walks around city neighbourhoods with notes on architectural highlights and historical background. I also enjoyed the countryside walks, invaluable for those who don't want to buy (or carry the additional weight of) specialised walking guides. Extract from Buyer Review.
Andalucia (Pallas Guides), Michael Jacobs - In this masterly book, now in a revised and updated fourth edition, Michael Jacobs looks with fresh eyes at all the traditional delights of Andalucia while doing full justice to the lesser-known aspects of the region. He examines the underrated local food and drink, the extraordinarily varied natural scenery, the composers and writers who created the romantic myths and legends of the nineteenth century, the strange legacy of Lorca and the Spanish Civil War. Andalucia's Moorish remains, its outstanding prehistoric and classical heritage and its exuberant Renaissance and Baroque monuments make it one of the richest regions of Europe for the visitor. Nearly a hundred Andalucian villages and towns are described in the gazetteer, some of which - Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Cadiz - are as lovely and as haunting as anywhere in the world.
Andalucia (Footprint Travel Guide), Andy Symington - This guide provides readers with complete and up-to-date information on how to get to Andalucia, when to go, what to see, and how to make your trip a success.

The Taste of a Place, Andalucia, Vicky Bennison - I've been to Mallorca with 'The Taste of a Place Mallorca' and discovered foods, restaurants and tastes which were like rediscovering it again. I've now got 'Andalucia' and it's a wonderful insiders guide to the region. This is a really beautiful book, with lovely pictures and so much sensible information about where and what to eat and drink, and what makes this fantastic part of Spain so attractive - the locally grown produce. It makes the cuisine of an already vibrant part of Spain really come to life. Now I know what the Andalucians eat, where they go to eat and what they drink. I love the book. Buyer Review

Andalucia (Cadogan Guide Andalucia) - This book is several books in one; a travel guide and a very readable history guide. We found the background on the region it gave us put us at an advantage in understanding the culture. The reference sections were good for their help with the language and for finding the right places to visit. We tried out several of the accommodation recommendations and were not disappointed, in fact we felt the book had under-sold the quality. Well recommended! Buyer Review.
