Walking in Spain (Lonely Planet Walking Guides), Miles Roddis - When it comes to seeing a country in its true light away from the neon glow of the city, getting off the beaten track is not only desirable--it's essential. Certainly in Spain's case it makes a lot of sense to take to the hills, for while Europe's third largest country may attract 47 million visitors a year, tourists are mostly confined to a few densely populated coastal areas, leaving vast tracts of the Iberian peninsula relatively deserted. This guide features: detailed descriptions of 57 great walks; precise two-colour maps for every walk; complete coverage of the pilgrims route, Camino de Santiago; illustrated guide to Spain's wildlife plus complete information on accommodation and transport options.

Trekking in Spain (Lonely Planet Walking Guides), Marc Dubin.

The Way of St. James: Camino De Santiago - Pyrenees-Santiago-Finesterre - This is a walker's guide to the 778km Pilgrim Road from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the French side to Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, and finally to the 'end of the earth' at Finisterre on the Galician coast. A companion volume by the same author, "The Way of St James" (Le Puy to the Pyrenees), describes the French section of the route through to the Pyrenees. As well as giving directions for walking the route, the book also provides information on places to visit along the way, the history of the pilgrimage and the availability of practical facilities such as shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation. Unlike existing guides (in any language) this one contains: details of the walker's continuation from Santiago to Finisterre (75km) and a comprehensive listing of St. James' and other pilgrim references along the way (as an Appendix). It also contains a list of suggestions for further reading, a glossary of geographical and other useful terms, and a series of sketch maps covering the entire route to help the user in planning his or her journey.

Walking Through Spain, Robin Neillands - An account of the author's solo walk across Spain in 1989, through rugged mountain ranges and arid, treeless plains. The terrain was by no means all he had to contend with, but his sense of humour prevailed and he conveys the pleasure of his encounters with Spanish people, culture and geography. Limited availability.

North from Granada: A Walking Tour from Granada to Toledo and Madrid in a Direct Line, Roy Nash - A hugely enjoyable walk to Madrid - for the reader, if not for the eccentric walkers, one English and one American. Illustrated in colour throughout.

From Here to There (Walking Spain's Coast), David Jones - On his marathon walk round the coast of Spain, David Jones passes through the country's most diverse regions. He takes an informed and often irreverent look at the lives and traditions of Spain's different peoples experiencing wild fiestas, strange pagan rituals and nationalist fervour. Along the shore he sees the unrivalled beauty of the sierras which collide with the sea, the tiny fishing villages and isolated beaches and, inevitably, the concrete-filled costa resorts. The book is a funny and fascinating journey around Spain.

The Best of Spain (TRAVEL INTELLIGENCE) - The good thing about this book is that it is very different to other standard travel guides. Instead of just history, facts and listings, a selection of travel writers have contributed articles on places, activities and fiestas from all corners of Spain, giving an insight into the sort of places that most tourists would never normally go to. So, although it's more anthology than guide, there's still also a good range of practical information on how to get to all the places featured, where to stay, even what to read while you're there. Some lovely pictures from all over the country too. Buyer Review.
