Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Ferry Meadows Walk, Sunday 29th April 2012 - Peterborough

Come and join us in a fantastic sponsored walk in the beautiful Ferry Meadows Country Park for all ages and perfect for a family day out! There are a number of routes to suit all ages, pushchairs, toddlers, wheelchairs, the fit and the not so fit.  Shortest route is 1 3/4  miles, 2 ½ miles and a 5 mile route -all of these routes are circular starting and finishing at the Lakeside Café & Bar- just in time for a well deserved cuppa and cake!
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis. It is an inherited disease, affecting more than 9000 people across the UK. It affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis. Each week, two young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.

The CF Trust has made great strides in changing Cystic Fibrosis from a disease of infancy to a long-term condition with a median survival rate now at 41 years. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. We need to grow further to ensure that the life of CF sufferers is longer and that they have a better quality of life. To find out more about the disease, and what the CF Trust does, please visit www.cftrust.org.uk

On 20 May 2012, the streets of London will see a royal walkabout unlike any other, as hundreds of ‘kings and queens’ embark on a sponsored walk around the city in support of people living with HIV.
HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust is inviting crowned heads of all ages to take part in its annual Walk For Life fundraiser on Sunday 20th May. This year’s event takes place two weeks before the Diamond Jubilee, with supporters voting for a fancy dress theme of ‘Kings and Queens’. Plain clothes royals are very welcome too.
This year is the 23rd annual Walk For Life. Walkers pay a small entrance fee and generate sponsorship through the event website (www.walkforlife.co.uk ), and the money they raise goes to support people living with HIV. Funds go towards Terrence Higgins Trust’s Hardship Fund, a project offering grants to people with HIV in severe financial need. To join the royal party, either as an individual walker or as part of a team, please register at www.walkforlife.co.uk , or telephone (020) 7812 1665. Registration costs £15 per person, which helps Terrence Higgins Trust cover the costs of the event.

Holy Island Night Hike

23rd-24th June. This trek is a true test of stamina walking 26 miles through the night along St Cuthbert’s way. This is a historic Pilgrimage path that links where St Cuthbert started and finished his Ministry.

Hadrian’s Wall Weekend Trek

29th June- 1St July 2012. This is an exciting 2 day trek at Lanercost Priory and runs 25 miles along the only remaining section of the wall.

In Ethiopia people are forced to use water sources that are a huge health risk due to drought. Women are mainly responsible for collecting water, and some spend up to 12 hours a day doing so. Not only is carrying this load extremely damaging to women’s health, travelling this long distance they are exposed to a greater risk of abduction and rape and this leaves them extremely vulnerable. Etebane is only 12 years old and ever day has to make two 4 km journeys to the nearest spring collecting 10 litres of water and carrying it on her petite frame. Etebane is looking forward to the completion of pipe work that will bring the clean and safe drinking water from the spring to her village and mean an end to this exhausting daily routine.

So walk for Etebane and many others this summer by taking part in Holy Island Night Hike or Hadrian’s Wall Weekend Trek:

You will find more information on these events on the Christian Aid website: http://www.christianaid.org.uk/getinvolved/events/trekking/index.aspx

Join us on from the 10th -19th November and trek the Inca Trail

This is a fundraising adventure of a lifetime, trekking to the Lost City of the Incas – Machu Picchu. From high remote mountain trails to the first sight of Machu Picchu, the legendary Lost City of the Incas, this is a challenging trek on steep trails climbing to 4,200m in fantastic and diverse mountainous country.

There is plenty of time built in to acclimatise to the altitude, enjoy exploring ancient Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire, and the surrounding Sacred Valley. The trek then takes you through lush cloud forest, green valleys and high passes with breathtaking views of snow-capped Andean peaks. It really is a fantastic trip which is aimed at people of all ages travelling alone or as a group.

We raise money to enable Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide world-class care for its young patients and their families and to pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illness. Amazing things happen at Great Ormond Street Hospital every day. With your help we can keep the magic alive for our very ill children and their families.
