LONG DISTANCE PATHS RUNNING THROUGH THE REGION ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN WHITE

Walk Exmoor, David and Carol Hill - 'I do not know of any other
comparable area where such wildness and such softness are so closely
interwoven.' J H B Peel's 'Portrait of Exmoor'. It's this striking
contrast and variety of intertwined landscapes which gives Exmoor its
remarkable appeal and offers such a richly rewarding and stimulating area
for adventurous walkers. There's wildness on the desolate moorland plateau
and along the rugged cliff tops, both of which offer an expansive feel and
miles of fine distant views. One of the joys of Exmoor is the seemless,
flowing connection between moors and cliffs, whilst at the same time,
cutting through them, are winding valleys that provide a more gentle,
intimate landscape. We round each bend with a thrill of anticipation,
wondering what new secrets will be revealed. All 40 walking routes
include: walking route summary, ratings for Effort Time Distance
Ascents/Descents Refreshments and Vertigo risk, fully detailed walk
description including frequent timings to aid navigation, GPS waypoints
for pin-point navigational accuracy, full colour Ordnance Survey licenced
mapping, short walk and stroll alternatives. Published April 06

Exmoor and The
Quantocks, John Earle, Exmoor is one of our smallest National Parks
but one not lacking in variety and interest. From the moors around
Simonsbath to the wild coastline of the Bristol Channel it is a place to
explore. Here is ancient Dunster, romantic Badgworthy Water with its
echoes of Lorna Doone, and the ever-popular Watersmeet. The often
neglected Quantocks are also included in this guide. The walking is less
strenuous than on Dartmoor and is suitable for all the family. 44 circular
tours are described. Each walk is graded by length and difficulty of
terrain, the climbing involved and the map reading and navigation skills
needed. The author has grouped the walks into four areas of Exmoor with
the Brendons and the Quantocks as two other additional sections: The
North-west Moor, The North-east Moor, The Southern Moor, The Brendons, The
North Coast and The Quantocks. The main roads are used as the boundaries.

Local Leisure Map: Exmoor and North Devon.
Two Moors Way, [Dartmoor & Exmoor] James Roberts - The Two Moors Way, created in the mid 1970s, runs for approximately 100 miles from Ivybridge on the southern edge of Dartmoor to the spectacular north Devon coastline at Lynmouth. James Roberts describes a walk full of contrasts - from remote walking across wild moorland to the gentle hill country of mid-Devon with pastures, copses and hedges. As well as covering the route in detail, the book includes information about places of interest both on and off the Way, together with details on accommodation and other useful addresses. Most walkers will probably finish the Two Moors Way in five days, if not distracted en route. However there is a wealth of distraction along (and just off) the way, and the author has laid out the book as six days' walking. As well as providing a worthy challenge for the long-distance walker, the Two Moors Way is an enriching experience, with its variety of fine landscapes, delightful villages and great wealth of history and prehistory encountered along the route. Published August 94.
