LONG DISTANCE PATHS RUNNING THROUGH THE REGION ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN WHITE
Norfolk AA 50 Walks - Walking is one of Britain's favourite leisure activities, and with "50 Walks in Norfolk" you can find a variety of mapped walks to suit all abilities - from the casual walker to the experienced hiker. The book features all the practical detail you need, accompanied by fascinating background reading on the history and wildlife of the area, as well as other local points of interest. All walks are annotated with places to visit along the way: 'While You're There', featuring churches, country houses, museums, villages and towns. Each walk also has refreshment information: 'Where to Eat and Drink', including tea rooms and pubs, with extra details on their character and the food on offer. A 'What to Look For' panel features more specific details of urban and industrial heritage, flora and fauna. Every walk is given a summary of distance, time, gradient, level of difficulty, type of surface and access, landscape, dog friendliness, parking and public toilets. Published April 08.

Norfolk Walks Pathfinder Guide, John Brooks - As in all titles in the series, each walk is accompanied by colour mapping and clear directions, with full-colour photographs throughout. The 28 walks are graded according to length and accompanied by extensive information and advice for walkers. Norfolk has a not wholly justified reputation for being flat. The flat fenland in the far west of the county is, however, a distinct region, shared with other counties and being drained by a complicated system of rivers, dykes and sluices. A similar landscape can be seen in the east of the county where the rivers Bure and Yare, but the rest of the county offers scenery aptly described by Ronald Blythe as carrying undulation to the most subtle limits. The north Norfolk coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty, providing outstanding walking along cliffs and beaches, with excellent opportunities for observing the abundant coastal wildlife. To the east, the Norfolk Broads is a unique area of lakes along rivers meandering towards the sea. They not only provide recreation but also have a special flora and fauna. Norfolk's legacy of medieval country churches centre on the numerous villages, many of which are of special historic interest. Several country estates also allow access to their extensive parkland, providing another type of walking. Thetford Forest, which covers much of the south-west of the county, also provides a deal of excellent walking unlike that in the rest of the county. Published March 01.

The Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast, Bruce and Mike Robinson - The
Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path together form the 93-mile (149-km)
National Trail that starts near Knettishall in the Brecklands on the
Norfolk-Suffolk border and runs north-west to meet the shores of the Wash
near Hunstanton before turning east to follow the beautiful North Norfolk
coastline to Cromer. The first part of the route, The Peddars Way, follows the route of a Roman road, running arrow-straight along the chalk ridge of north-west Norfolk; the Norfolk Coast Path, in contrast, follows the seawall along the beaches and around the muddy creeks that form a coastline that is home to some of the most famous and spectacular nature reserves in the country. This is the complete, official guide to the entire route for both the
long-distance walker and the weekend stroller. Bruce Robinson retired after working for forty years as a journalist on newspapers in Norfolk and Lincolnshire. He has written eleven books, including two on walking and three contributions to a series on Norfolk's history. This new edition has been revised and updated by his son, Mike. Published April 10.

A Boot up the Norfolk Coast, Tony Rothe - This book of 12 short walks
arose from the
author's ongoing passion for the North
Norfolk coast and a desire to share its beauty
with others, coupled with a realisation that
not everyone can afford the time to devote
a couple of hours or more to the walks
generally found in more demanding walks
books. This book covers the stretch of coast
and inland from Castle Rising to Overstrand. Published April 09.

A Boot Up the Norfolk Coast Book 2, Tony Rothe - Tony Rothe follows up the success of his first book of walks on the North Norfolk Coast with 10 more walks on or near the coast, each of them offering walkers fresh ideas and giving a different perspective to a familiar ramble. Whether following the tide line or walking along a coastal path, strolling through wooded valleys or following a winding lane, this convenient pocket-sized companion is designed to add an extra dimension to the enjoyment of a leisurely walk. A Boot Up the Norfolk Broads, Tony Rothe - Tony Rothe has already produced two books in the Boot Up Series based on walks on the North Norfolk Coast. In this book he wanders further afield and provides ten exhilarating walks on the Norfolk Broads. As the author says in his introduction: "Much of the area's charm, stems from its isolation and inaccessibility. Many of these walks take you along riverbanks, giving you glimpses of open water of the Broads where possible. The ten walks in this little book explore the area around four Norfolk rivers, the Yare, the Bure, the Ant and the Thurne. The landscape includes rivers, shallow lakes, woodland, fens, grazing marshes and farmland, usually in a context of startling beauty, and with an amazing variety of wildlife habitats - walks to appeal to everyone."
