The Mournes Walks, Paddy Dillon - Thirty-two
walks to explore the Mournes, taking in rugged coast, high mountains, forest
parks and low-level farmlands. They lead you along the mighty Mourne Wall as
it pursues a rollercoaster route over the mountains. They also lead you to
quiet corners where the history, heritage, wildlife and stillness of the
area can be enjoyed. They look formidable, yet the Mournes are a very
compact range of mountains. A tough walker could traverse them in a day,
while an enquiring walker could spend years trying to get to know them
throughout the changing seasons. This guidebook offers a selection of
walking routes, from the coast to the highest peaks, allowing you to explore
and appreciate this special place. The routes lie within the Mourne Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty, which embraces not only the Mountains of Mourne,
but also Slieve Croob and the north-east coastline. Published June 04.

Bernard Davey's Mourne: Ten Walks with the Weatherman - Bernard Davey is a former BBC Weatherman now living in the shadow of Ulster's Mourne Mountains. This beautifully illustrated book-his own photos- is more than just a description of his favourite ten walks which he descibes lovingly and in detail. It is a tribute to the Co.Down landscape and a hymn of praise to what I think is Ireland's most attractive mountain range. The book is literary, informative and accessibly written and is a must for anyone contemplating a visit to Northern Ireland. Its also a good bedtime read -vicarious pleasure without moving a muscle. The walks detach in flash card form if you must but the slim volume will easily fit into your Barbour pocket. Published October 99. A Companion to the Causeway Coast Way: A Comprehensive Guide to the Walk from Portstewart to Ballycastle, Philip Watson Published September 04.
